Sandalwood

Sandalwood is a small tree which feeds by sending small hooks into the roots of other trees. As it is semiparasitic, it is incapable of absorbing nutrients from the soil on its own. Various temples in India have been constructed with its wood, and some Bible passages speak of its use during the reign of King Solomon to build harps, columns, and other accessories in the Temple of Jerusalem. Sandalwood is still frequently used in Hinduism, especially in temples dedicated to Shiva.
