Clove

Cloves (Syzygium aromaticum) are the dried floral buds from the clove tree, originally from Indonesia. This tree belongs to the Myrtaceae family and can grow up to 10 to 20 meters in height.

Clove essential oil is obtained by steam distillation. It is unusual in that it is one of the few essential oils that doesn’t float on the surface of the hydrosol as it has a higher density than water.

The major compound in Clove essential oil is Eugenol, a phenol with highly potent analgesic and antibiotic properties.
