Citronella

Citronella is a plant originally from Indonesia which resembles grass but has a characteristic lemon smell. In the genus “Cymbopogon,” there are various similar species, including Lemon Grass (Cymbopogon citratus).

Citronella essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the plant’s long leaves and is composed mostly of alcohols (geraniol, citronellol) and aldehydes (citronnelal).

It is an excellent mosquito repellent and, therefore, an important companion on any trip to the jungle. It also has anti-infective, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, digestive, deodorant and relaxative properties.

Citronella essential oil should be diluted in a vegetable carrier oil so that you can apply it directly to the skin and use it as a mosquito repellent. The oil is of great help with infections and can also be used to relive pain from inflammation, as in cases of rheumatism, arthritis, and tendinitis. It is also recommended in cases of digestive and hepatic insufficiency.

Citronella essential oil is a general purifier and can support us in the process of cleansing our energetic bodies or be used as an environmental purifier to release dense energies.
