'Slow Cosmetics' - A sustainable beauty routine

The 'Slow cosmetics' movement has gained popularity in recent years as a response to growing concern for health and the environment in the cosmetics and beauty products industry. Slow Cosmetics is a philosophy that promotes awareness about ingredients and the manufacturing of beauty products and encourages people to be more mindful and responsible in their product choices. This movement aims to protect the health of consumers and optimize the efficiency of their beauty routine for longevity.

Unfortunately, many large companies in the cosmetics industry use toxic ingredients in their products to make them more attractive to consumers and easier to market. These chemical compounds can harm skin health and interfere with longevity. Prolonged use of some of these ingredients has been proven to disrupt our endocrine system, causing hormonal imbalances, and promoting the formation of cancer and other diseases. This is why one of the key aspects of the 'Slow cosmetics' movement is the importance of taking the time to read cosmetic product labels.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of some potentially harmful ingredients commonly found in cosmetics and beauty products:

  • Parabens: preservatives that can mimic estrogen and increase the risk of breast cancer.
  • Sulphates: can irritate the skin and cause dermatitis.
  • Fragancia artificial (Perfumes): can cause allergic reactions and asthma.
  • Mineral oils (derived from petroleum): can clog pores and cause redness and dry skin.
  • Bisphenol A (BPA): found in some plastic products and can mimic estrogen and affect endocrine function.
  • Triclosan: an antibacterial agent used in cleaning and personal care products that can interfere with hormone production and the endocrine system.
  • Phthalates: se encuentran en productos de plástico suaves y pueden interferir con la producción de hormonas y la fertilidad.

On the other hand, there are many natural ingredients that are good for the skin and promote health and longevity. Some of the most popular are:

  • Jojoba oil: is very similar to human sebum and is gentle on the skin.
  • Rosehip oil: is rich in essential fatty acids and vitamin C.
  • Argan oil: is rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids and is excellent for mature skin.
  • Calendula extract: is anti-inflammatory and used to treat scars and dermatitis.
  • Comfrey extract: stimulates cell regeneration.
  • Lavender essential oil: suavizante y cicatrizante.
  • Tea Tree essential oil: antibacterial and antifungal.

It is important to choose healthy cosmetic products made by companies aligned with the 'slow cosmetics' movement. This means looking for products that contain no toxic ingredients, made with natural and sustainable ingredients, and made by companies committed to the health and wellbeing of consumers and the environment.

Always remember that a healthy beauty routine should serve our health and promote longevity in a sustainable way.
